Dennis Miller in the Cubs' booth. This could get interesting.

I can't find any verification of this, but I read today that after the D'backs won a game in the 2001 World Series, they started playing "New York, New York" and then "scratched it out" and started playing ... whatever dumb song they played after wins back then.

This, of course, would have been weeks after 9/11.

So while it's not exactly the same as what the Dodgers did, it's ... who gives a fuck? It's baseball. Fucking celebrate.

Man, the Pirates are really starting to gag. What should have been a routine 5-3 for the final out goes off Alvarez's glove (think you might want to get a better defender in there in the last inning, Clint?) and allows two runs in for the Reds to tie it. Cincy has since taken the lead in the 10th.

Even worse ... against the Cardinals, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke brings in the extremely flammable Michael Gonzalez to start the seventh. Two doubles later, Gonzalez is gone, and another hit later, so is the Brewers lead.

So what looked like it could be a night the Pirates tie up the Cards, they may instead be two games back.

Yeah, they're pretty safe for a Wild Card game, considering the Nats would probably have to win out. But they need to win the division so the Cards can be disposed in just one game.

I noticed this too (for fantasy baseball reasons none of you care about ...). Cincinnati went on to win in the 10th.

Pirates fans: Was the guy who pitched the 9th inning tonight the closer? I realize Grilli was hurt earlier this season.

Yes, Melancon has been closing since Grilli got hurt, and doing a very good job of it until the last few outings. Certainly doesn't sound like tonight was his fault.

Grilli has not pitched well since his return from the DL and it doesn't seem like a fluke. His velocity is down.

Cardinals took a 6-4 lead in the top of the ninth. Brewers have now tied it on a slug-bunt infield single by Aramis Ramirez with the bases loaded and one out. With a chance to win it, Carlos Gomez grounded into a 5-2-3 double play.

    Gotta love that Brewers bullpen.

Rays and Orioles in the 18th inning. I love September baseball that matters.

O's and Rays played until after 2 a.m., then had to come back 10 hours later for a 1 p.m. game.

So far, through the first four innings, both teams have combined for one hit.
