Not even close to an error

Watching the game on TV last night, it was a hit all the way. If the ball is hit just a littlebit harder, Kozma makes the play and the no-hitter is preserved.

I watched Bud Norris and Jose Jimenez throw their no-hitters, after which neither pitcher did much in the show. Wacha's future is much brighter than that of those two.

    I've posted about this before.

Buck Weaver's first-inning single got changed to an error — and a no-hitter for Browns pitcher Ernie Koob — after a game in 1917. And by all accounts, it should have been an error in the first place. But the Chicago Tribune writer had already filed his story:

Oops. Here's the St. Louis P-D headline:

The very next day, Bob Groom of the Browns pitched another no-hitter against the White Sox — this time with no controversy — in the second game of a doubleheader at Sportsman's Park.

Naturally, the White Sox won the World Series that year.

Well, Carlos Gomez and Paul Maholm clearly have some unresolved issues. Gomez (hit by Maholm earlier this season) came to the plate angry, got angrier still, and then boiled over after he hit a solo home run.

Gomez talks shit around the bases and McCann decides to block his path to home plate. Bench-clearing hilarity ensues.

Gomez richly deserved his ejection, but McCann, who decided he was Deputy Dog Of Baseball Code by blocking home plate, stays in the game? Stupid.

Worst of all, Freddie Freeman --- the Braves' one indispensable player --- got tossed for inadvertently elbowing Aramis Ramirez during the scrum.

More fine work by C.B. Bucknor in Miami.
Two on, two out in the seventh inning of a 2-2 game. Marlins' Christian Yelich hits a dribbler up the first base line. Phillies reliever Cesar Jimenez fields it, swipes at Yelich with his bare left hand -- which missed Yelich by almost a foot, to boot -- and Bucknor calls the out to end the inning.
I know it's a meaningless game in the last week of the season, but still ... yeesh.

Tigers squeeeeeze out 1-0 win over the Twinkies to clinch the AL Central.

Scherzer strikes out 10 in 7 innings to improve ERA to 2.90. He has won some games too but of course nobody cares about that.

Cabrera goes 0-4, continuing about a 20-point drop in BA in the last month.

Cabrera shouldn't step on the field again until the playoffs. I get the concern about messing up his timing, but the Tigers should have been giving the guy more rest. He's just not healthy and it finally caught up with lately.

McCann is the Serena Williams of baseball.

Everyone on MLB Network blaming Gomez. Gomez blames himself, apologizes after the game. (Just like Fernandez last month.)

But sure, let's all pile on the Braves again.
