Swisher and Giambi go back to back against the Red Sox -- Swisher and Giambi of the Indians.

    A minute later ...

Hafner goes yard for a 4-3 lead against the Diamondbacks -- Hafner of the Yankees.

At the risk of sounding like an ginormous dick, and while stating expressly that I value life above all things, and that baseball is an earthly diversion ...

Is anyone else cringing at the inevitable season-long diarrheal ESPN narrative machine that will self-justify Red Sox coverage by way of using the terrible event that occurred two days ago?

The Dropkick Murphys are eagerly awaiting the call from ESPN's rights and clearances department. They've got a new tour bus to pay for.

On my morning commute I have two options: Mike and Mike, and the new CBS Sports Radio show with Tiki Barber and some dude and ex-ESPNer Dana Jacobson and it's been interesting to compare and contrast...the morning after, M&M was all Boston, all the time. Today, pretty much the same. CBS? about half-and-half yesterday, and probably 20 percent today. The latter seemed about right to me.

Coupled in the wagering with "Sweet Caroline" references?

If they win the pennant, will the Tribune do another Chicago Red Sox front?

    Yahtzee!

Quite the pitchers' duel in the Pacific Northwest, as Felix and Scherzer each go eight innings and strike out 12. Game's still tied 1-1 in the 11th.

Both guys were throwing 90-plus with tons o' movement. Scherzer has a bit of a funky delivery, too.

Yet another no-decision for Felix Hernandez on a night he had great stuff.

Finally ended in the 14th after Brayan Pena batted in the winning run on a groundout up the middle with the bases loaded and the infield in.

Seattle chance to tie it in the bottom of the inning. Smoak singles and Ackley (I think, but not sure) hits a ball down the RF line. Hunter relays to Fielder, throws to Pena at the plate. Ball easily beats Smoak, who barrels into Pena, who holds on to the ball for the final out.

    Great game by both teams.

According to the Washington Times, Bryce Harper needed an IV before the game last night in Miami and was puking during the game. Said his head was spinning at the plate.

    He went 4 for 5.

If the mike and mikes of the world want to honor the heroes and the fallen, you would think they could make an effort to find something whose history stretches back farther than five or 10 years.
It's not like the city isn't almost 400 years old or anything.
    What a god awful song.

Good lord. I'd like to be happy that the beloved Tribe spent some bucks in the off season. Unfortunately, that rotation is a complete dumpster fire. I hate Ubaldo Jimenez with the white, hot passion, of a thousand burning hells.....
