I should invent the OBA: The Oppo Boppo Average.

Oppo boppo means opposite-field home run. It's common terminology used often by Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post.

The idea that it is the people who follow advanced statistics, and not Moddy, who are being condescending here, is absolutely laughable.

And he doesn't think they're "fine." He makes fun of them constantly. "Babip my crabip" being one recent example. One post after another about how useless they are because they have long formulas. Rants about how baseball is a simple game and got along just fine without newer statistics.

    He doesn't think they're fine.

It's because people still rely wholeheartedly at stats like wins and RBI that don't tell a whole lot. It's like believing in holistic medicine over a doctor's prescription.

    Umm, no.

Mention Clay Buchholz or Matt Moore, you got a better case. Neither are as filthy as Yu.

Not this year. Saddened to inform you the Cy Young is not a lifetime achievement award.

Basically because he keeps stating that people are "trying to sound smart" by having an interest in advanced statistics. I don't appreciate his impugnment of motive.

Moddy, the advanced stats in hockey are being used by quite a few teams. Are those teams just trying to sound smart and enlightened?

People can enjoy the game anyway they want but it doesn't hurt to understand that plus minus in hockey is a terrible stat or thatt goals against average and wins for a goalie are team stats not individual ones. Teams use other stats in lieu of these. Maybe the word advanced stats is what puts people off. They really aren't advanced just different. Teams and fans are using different stats that make it a little easier to project future performance. There is a long way to go in hockey but I don't see what is wrong in re-evaluating the way the game is scouted. There is room for both and that is what good teams do.

I thought the original term was Oppo Taco. It's common terminology used often by Victor Rojas of the Los Angeles Angels and briefly of the Texas Rangers.

I honestly like what the NBA does and 82games does with stats.

What is the NHL cooking up?
