The only reason I didn't like it: I felt, if, in theory, you drafted the best available WRs at 2, 3, and 7, you'd be more likely to find an impact WR than putting all your eggs in the Patterson basket, while still having a 4 left over. Said another way, if the goal was to find a great WR, if felt you're more likely to do that with 3-4 shots at it in runds 2-7 than going all-in in round 1.

I hear you. Patterson is raw and it's a gamble. Minnesota gave up a ton for him.

I don't expect Minnesota to win it all in my lifetime, but I'd like to see them make a run while they have AP. They need to give him support, but then it comes back to the QB question.

I hope Patterson doesn't pan out like Troy Williamson.

I watched the draft with my dad. He's a Packer fan.

All night he's asking me what number will Te'o wear for Minnesota, how many Notre Dame guys will Minnesota have on the roster after they draft Te'o, etc.

Then when they draft Patterson he asks me if I remember how Troy Williamson worked out.

It's more disgust than psychosis. "Jerry being Jerry" gets older every year the Cowboys fail, which is working on 18 now.

You'd think by now he's had his fill of trying to look like a Football Man and would like to, you know, make the playoffs and win games.

Here's a stunning stat via Rick Gosselin: This is Jerry's 24th draft, and he's traded his first-round pick 19 times.

You'd start Tim Tebow ahead of Christian Ponder? I wouldn't. Ponder has made more progress in two years than Tebow has in three years.

Aside from being a Packers fan, your dad sounds cool.

Maybe teams are finally waking up to the fact it isn't so smart to reach for a quarterback in the first round if the guy doesn't have the tools to be a starter. There have been an awful lot of reaches in recent years by teams needing a QB and they wind up with an overhyped, overpaid guy who is in way over his head and can't produce.

The reality is there are far fewer star quarterbacks than there are teams that need one. Thus, the law of supply and demand tells us people will always be reaching and hoping.... and most will wind up disappointed.

Naw. Jerry likes the spotlight. As long as he gets three or even four Sunday night games, a Monday game, a Thanksgiving game, gets to be the lead story on SportsCenter once a week and sells out his 100,000-seat stadium at $300 per ticket, he's happy. Ask Jerry if he'd trade his franchise straight-up for any other in pro sports and he'd turn you down in a heartbeat.

"We the Dallas Cowboys. No. 1 seller of sports merchandise in America. And we got the biggest stadium. Life is good. We don't need no stinkin' January road trip to Carolina and lose to a bunch of no-names in some wildcard game. Life is good."

He also hasn't taken a QB in the first round since Aikman.

I think the Chiefs have the longest streak of not taking a QB in the first round. I think Blackledge was the last.

He also told me it was ok for me to throw my cell or bottle of beer at the TV when Minnesota drafted Te'o because he wants a new TV and then I'd have to buy him one.

I was surprised at the difference in some of the trades... I didn't think Miami gave up that much to move up to No. 3. I don't think the Niners gave up that much to move to No. 18. The Rams gave up a lot to get Tavon Austin (probably worth it) and the Patriots got a lot to trade their pick to Minnesota.

    That's fucking hilarious...

Did you become a Vikings fan to rebel against your dad? That's something I would have done as a kid, but your dad sounds cool... Mine is an asshole. :D
