Huh? Smith was with Select Sports Group. That has nothing to do with Steinberg.

I misread your post where you were talking about Steinberg under the bit about him firing his agent...

    My bad...

Ah, OK. Yeah it was Steinberg ripping other agents.

As to the whole Jerry Maguire thing, I don't think it's that as much as it is the true-life narratives about agents getting guys drafted. The one I remember most was Rosenhaus with Willis McGahee, setting out to make him a first-round pick three months after the injury. When the Bills took him, the world celebrated it as Rosenhaus' achievement. I think there have been some other stories like that.

lighten up, francis. you took my post way too literally. maybe an eye-roll icon would've helped... and 'jerry maguire' is on cable tv just about 24/7 so it's not a reach that nfl prospects have chcked it out, even in passing. sheesh. if not for his drinking woes, leigh steinberg would still be going head to head with guys like condon and rosenhaus and segal...

I'm sure that Geno will get sound advise from his Uncle Melvin from The U.

This is going to be a train wreck.

yeah, and rosenhaus tried convincing everybody that 'jerry mguire' was based on him, not steinberg -- even though leigh was the one who had a cameo (with his cliients, aikman and witt) in the flick...

FYI, KIDS: 'STRIPES' ON 'VH-1' CLASSICS AS WE TYPE... PRE-'LIGHTEN UP, FRANCIS' SCENE. ;D

I think Rosenhaus was a big reason why McGahee was drafted where he was. I think Tom Condon was a big reason why Alex Smith was drafted where he was. I think Mike Sullivan was part of the reason why Aaron Rodgers fell to the bottom of the first round. Nobody can prove that, but it can seem that way...

Of course, you look at someone like Joe Flacco, who went with someone who isn't as well-known as Condon or Dunn or Sexton or Dogra and that guy has served him remarklaby well.

I always had the impression that Rosenhaus was "pre-memo" (It's a MISSION STATEMENT!) Jerry.

the flacco example is the only one i agree with -- 'cause agents won't 'influence where you are taken positively, as you indicate was the case with alex smith ad mcgahee. they can only influence negatively. teams/gms have too much invested and at stake to let an agent's identity swing their pick.
