How well did Miller hold up against the run out of college? I feel like this is an area of his game that's really improved - but I could be misremembering things.

But if you're not going to play until at least 2014? And then only maybe?

No way I'm even going to sign you as a free agent under those circumstances. Rehab the knee, pass a physical and then come to a tryout and let's see what you can do then before you're getting a penny of my money. He's not anything special, not worth the gamble. Running backs are a dime a dozen, especially if you have a decent offensive line.

A free-agent signing bonus might be as low as $5,000. A practice squad player makes $5,700 a week or $96,900 for a full season. Throw in some incidentals and you're looking at $110K for a potential starting running back.

That's a pretty low-risk, high-reward situation for any NFL team.

Very, very minimal. I asked for extended medical leave and was denied. I was out of there.

No, but he may have gotten a terrible deal. By the time he even has a chance to see the field, he might be in his 6th or 7th season. Long wait for someone who was a No. 1 pick. And I can't imagine he has any leverage to force a trade. I'm sure he was drafted as some sort of insurance, which hasn't been needed yet.

    Mallett was a third-round pick.

I kinda hope Mallett goes somewhere else and plays next year. I'm interested to see what he can do. If the "OMG HE LEARNED SO MUCH SITTING BEHIND BRADY SO HE'LL BE WELL ADVANCED AND A GREAT QB SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!" theory pays off here.

That's what everyone said about Matt Schaub following his tenure backing up Michael Vick. And by "everyone," I mean "no one."

I thought it was earlier than that.

If I'm New England or Atlanta or some other team with a fairly secure situation at running back, I'd make that deal in a nanosecond for the possibility (however remote) of having a healthy Marcus Lattimore a year or two down the road. $100K is chump change for NFL teams.

Atlanta's RB situation is far from secure. Turner has lost a couple steps, and Rodgers is not an every-down back.

And the Patriots getting a good season out of Stevan Ridley means nothing more than that they got a good season out of Stevan Ridley.
