He also took the Rams and Cardinals to the Super Bowl. The Rams and Cardinals! Without the great defenses that people often use as excuses.

That's a ridiculous statement. If both sucked, would they not make each other look worse?

If they're making each other better, they must be pretty good, no?

I'd say Witten helps Romo way more than the other way around.

Are you saying Witten is not a Hall of Fame-caliber player? Even if you think he isn't in now, do you think he doesn't have a chance to be (since he is only 30)?

It was also his design that allowed him to win two MVPs.

It's interesting when people say Dungy has a chance to go in on the first ballot next year.

How many tries did it take Parcells? Four?

Is there a person on this planet who thinks Dungy is even close to being as good as Parcells was?

If you think Wes Welker or Reggie Wayne is a Hall-of-Famer, you haven't been paying enough attention to the HOF voting the last few years...

Moss is a lock. Fitzgerald is a lock.

Barring an injury, Calvin Johnson is pretty likely to join them. If Andre Johnson can have another season or two like last season, he'll likely make it even though he's a little light on touchdowns.

    Wayne is better than Johnson.

Which everybody are you referring to among tight ends?

In the past five seasons, there have been two 100-catch seasons by a TE -- one by Jason Witten (110 in 2012), the other by Dallas Clark (100 in 2009). In that same span, there have been only eight 90-catch seasons -- no more than two in any season. Jason Witten has three of them, Tony Gonzalez two. No one else has more than one.

In the past five seasons, Witten has three 1,000-yard seasons and two others of 900-plus. No one else has more than one 1,000-yard season in that span. Hell, Jimmy Graham and Gonzalez are the only other TEs with more than one 900-yard season.

Oh, yeah, Witten is a very strong blocker. The Cowboys line him up at fullback at times and keep him in to block in quite a few max-protect situations (more than you would think).

What could Witten do to make his receptions more valuable?

There are a bunch of people who let their hatred of the Cowboys cloud their opinion of players on that team. Witten is as under the radar as you can be for someone who has been the most complete tight end in football the past decade.

If Wayne has another year like the last one, he might have a chance to separate himself from the pack. He'll be knocked for playing with Manning, Luck and Harrison.

Wayne has more touchdowns than I thought. The guy to watch to see if Wayne or Andre Johnson will have a shot will be Isaac Bruce. If he gets in, they'll have a chance. There's going to be quite the logjam at that position when those guys are eligible.

Harrison will get in. Owens will get in. Moss will get in. I can't imagine Fitzgerald not getting in.

Holt, Ward, Wayne, Bruce... I don't know... Are any of those guys better than Andre Reed? I don't think so...

I agree... Martz is a lunatic. But without his lunacy, I don't know if we're discussing Warner's HOF chances at all...

The problem with Witten is that the voters will likely view him as the third best TE of his era.

And that's a group who felt Shannon Sharpe, who retired as the TE leader in catchesm yards and TDs, had to wait until his third try to get in. Every single tight end has had to wait at least three years to be elected.

So I'd like to view him as a lock, but when a guy maybe be a seventh or eighth try guy, I can't say for sure.

Dungy has no shot to be a first-ballot selection, The best of the best coaches have been first ballot.. Parcells took technically four tries, but of course the first two were when everyone figured he was going to return to coaching so no one wanted to put him in. This time around it took two tries. And Parcells has a better resume that Dungy.
