When was Brown ever regarded as one of the top receivers in the game?

When was Art Monk, or James Lofton or Lynn Swann or John Stallworth? They are all in.

That's a dumb argument, there are dozens of players in the HOF who were never considered the best at their position. Were Dan Fouts and Bob Griese ever considered the best QB's in the NFL?

From 1993-2001, Tim Brown was probably considered one of the best. Throw out the rest of his career and that time period alone makes him look pretty fucking good.

Kurt Warner's case for the HOF is about 5,000 times stronger than Brown's.

Oh, heck, there is no requirement someone be the number one player at a given position at any given time in order to be inducted in the HOF. If that were the case, we'd have to choose between Joe Montana, John Elway, Dan Marino, Dan Fouts, Jim Kelly and Steve Young, whose careers overlapped. Yet all are in the Hall of Fame and probably all deserve it.

Who said number one player at his position?

Just a general line of thought of some people.

I have a higher standard than most when it comes to what makes a person HOF worthy. But I can't say that a player has to be the single best at his position in order to get in. Sometimes you get several HOF players who come along at the same time.

Warner had five good seasons. To me, that's not a HOF career.

To repeat an old point: The other quarterbacks to have started in three or more Super Bowls besides Warner are Griese, Staubach, Tarkenton Bradshaw, Montana, Aikman, Elway. Jim Kelly and Brady. All of 'em are in or sure as hell will be. That's a qualification.

just because all of them are in doesnt mean that starting in 3 or more supes is some sort of automatic criteria. it's just a coincidence -- i dont think any of those are hof'ers just because of the 3 starts. and, imho, griese is the one who doesnt belong with the others but that's a whole other thread...warner's case would be much stronger if he'd WON two of the three instead losing two of the three -- one of which was among the biggest upsets in super history (heaven-aided pats over rams).

warner's is a hof-calibre story -- from grocery boy to nfl stardom -- but falls just short of a hof career. neither enuf hof-quality seasons nor hof-quantity championships....

Warner also won two MVPs. Can't ignore that.
