Cena wasn't a very good in-ring wrestler in the beginning, but he's gotten so much better. Is he a Dean Malenko* with 1,000 holds? Of course not. But he's improved considerably. One of his assets is that he's a tweener in terms of size. He's not a little Luchador who flies around, but gets squashed by bigger opponents, nor is he a big lug like Batista who can barely move. He can do power moves, and high-flying moves and has the credibility to pull off both.

Batman touched on it earlier. He has charisma, which is really even more than half the battle. Charisma is what sells tickets. It's why guys like Hogan, Graham, and Sammartino were huge stars. Watch their matches on Youtube. They didn't really do a lot of holds and moves, and in Hogan's and Bruno's case, as faces, they spent most of the time getting beat up before making their comebacks.

That said, he IS stale. Very stale. But, as touched on earlier, the WWE still is making money with him, and if he ever does turn heel, there will need to be another babyface ready to take his spot, not only as the face of the company, but to provide a credible opponent for heel Cena**. Right now, there really is no other babyface which will make fans think can beat a heel Cena.

    * An absolute dream match would have been Malenko against Bryan.

** If he ever does turn heel, he really should be an arrogant character.

I think the problem is that there's no point in having these supposedly hardcore matches when talent either won't or aren't allowed to do the kind of bumps or other physical stunts that are expected. We were spoiled by the Attitude Era, a Vince who really didn't give a shit about his performers' safety, and performers stupid/crazy enough to take those bumps. But there's too much scrutiny. Hell in a Cell, Extreme Rules, TLC ... they're all so tame compared to what I watched 10-15 years ago that I would rather they retire those matches. They'll never live up to what's come before.

By the way, funny that piledrivers are such "dangerous" moves these days. I thought Impact's Slammiversary main event was booked great. Bully piledrives Sting onto the exposed wooden boards of the ring ... Sting kicks out. It was a great bit of booking. Made Sting look strong and Bully look desperate and despicable to do the move. Loved it.

As a lifelong WWE fan I hate to say this, but TNA is kicking Vince's ass right now.

It doesn't matter that TNA is chock full of WWE cast-offs and old WCW guys who are past their expiration dates. The booking over the last two or three months has been infinitely better than anything Vince and Co. have cranked out. It just seems Vince has been mailing it in since the Monday following Mania. They follow up one of the best shows -- and granted, it's usually one of the best shows of the year regardless -- with more shitty shows than good to great ones.

I think the move to three hours has a lot more to do with that than Vince is willing to admit. The numbers are down, the lowest they've been in quite some time, but Vince apparently doesn't want to do anything about it. I was hoping Linda giving up her political aspirations would signal the end of the PG era, but it ain't happening any time soon.

Part of the E's ban on piledrivers is from when Owen nearly broke Austin's neck. The other reason is they don't want the kiddies trying it and breaking each other's necks.

He's going to have to answer a lot of questions about his family history, and just wait until Katie Vick comes back from the dead.

  10. I would love to see Vince McMahon's face upon learning that Kane has been elected to the Senate and his wife has once again been rejected.

Ugh, whether or not he has good ideas, policies, or platforms, you know the opposition will try to smear him as a no-good, heathen rassler. The question is, where will they get material for the smear campaign? WWE isn't going to allow unauthorized use of copyrighted photos of Jacobs as Kane. It'll be interesting to follow if he goes through with it.

Didn't stop them from using Linda's limited in-ring appearances against her. Even if they don't have access to footage, it won't take opponents or the media long to reference some of his, um, interesting angles. Oh, to hear of Katie Vick and Shane McMahon's testicles being electrocuted on Meet the Press!
