Mark Henry's been doing the interview circuit this week. Enlightening stuff. In one, he admitted he basically realized he sucked when he had his pay cut in half during his last contract renegotiation five years ago, and used it as motivation to steadily improve to get where he is now.
In this one I'm linking to, he also said that's when he came up with the idea for his fake retirement.

Another interesting tidbit I had no idea about, was that Henry trained with Stu Hart in the Dungeon.
