They can still get to Punk/Taker very easily if Punk loses Sunday. Just saying.

As I said before, PUnk comes out after the loss, says his streak is better than Anyone else's. Including Taker's streak. Hell, he doesn't even have to mention Taker for the lights to dim and the music to hit.

I don't think they'll pull the trigger on it, but if they're ever going to unify the titles this is a golden opportunity to do it. Ziggler wins the Rumble and beats Punk/Cena/Rock for the WWE title at Wrestlemania — the same night he finally cashes in MITB to take the Heavyweight title.
Alternately, he could win the WWE title at the Elimination Chamber and cash in the same night, then have a star-making performance by defending both belts at WM in a pair of epic 20-minute matches.
I think having the two belts works well, so I doubt they'd do that. Be an interesting twist if they did, though.

I am heavily in favor of title unification. There is little difference in the "brands." The E doesn't even do the draft anymore.

I like the split titles not so much because of the brands, but because it gives a lot of other guys a chance to get in the spotlight with a major feud without it being THE major feud.
The current Heavyweight title contenders are a great example of this. While we get Punk, Rock, Cena and maybe Ryback in the WWE title mix, there's a half dozen other guys capable of going after the other belt (Big Show, Del Rio, Sheamus, Ziggler, Orton and Wade Barrett). A second major belt gives those guys a built-in reason to be in the spotlight. It's also an insurance policy in case Punk or Cena goes down with an injury and they have to shift focus for a couple of months.
I think it'd be cool if Ziggler won both belts at WM and had to defend them both for a month or two, but I'd hate to see a truly unified title on a long-term basis.

I hated the split titles at first, especially because the world title was just created out of the blue and held by the son-in-law. But now I'm pretty good with it, because it creates another natural storyline.

I have actually had a thought along a similar lines. My scenario: Ziggler wins the Royal Rumble and announces that he will make history by winning both belts at Wrestlemania, using his briefcase to create a world title shot and the Royal Rumble win for the WWE shot. They of course won't do this, but it would be different, and kind of cool.

Nice idea, but gawd, it's getting old to see the Taker come back one time a year.

Agreed. The end of the three-year storyline last year was plenty. It's over. Let it go. Nobody wants to see him limp through another "OMG, he almost died but he kept the streak intact like we all knew he would" match.

Well, what if it ends this year?

If he loses? That'd be awesome. Vince McMahon could personally sign me an affadavit that says it happens or I get his entire personal fortune, and I still wouldn't believe it until I saw it.

    I agree with you, btw.

I just think it's the one opponent Punk hasn't faced now that he's a top card guy
