2013 Pro Wrestling Thread

  1. Not sure why people are so upset. Yeah, it was obvious. But I don't think anyone being remotely realistic expected a different outcome in that match. I just wish they'd come up with a more creative way to get Rock-Cena II at Mania other than having both win tonight.

Guy who has wrestled three matches in the last, what, five years, comes in and beats the long-reigning champ? The only reason it's above Arquette is because of Rock's history and the fact he actually can still work in the ring. Let's just hope he remembers he's champ and attends a few shows in person.
Maybe he and Brock Lesnar can wrestle for the title at Mania. It'd be 20 minutes of staring at an empty ring.

It was obviously what they planned to do, and I hope they still move away from it. Have Punk beat Rock tomorrow night, keep the streak alive on the technicality I mentioned earlier, and we get Punk-Taker. Cena, meanwhile, takes his second shot at Rock on another technicality -- that the Rumble winner "main events" Wrestlemania, and not necessarily gets a title shot there. Rock-Cena II becomes the WM main event, and we get Punk-Taker for the title.
Not gonna happen, but that's the only thing keeping my rage in check for the next 24 hours.

Look. I paid a shit ton of money for my WrestleMania tickets, and I don't want to see Dolph Fucking Ziggler wrestle in the main event.

I want to see The Rock. I want to see John Cena. And that's what is going to make Vince the most money, so he's doing it.

And who says Dolph can't cash in on the victor after that?

You guys buying this and hoping for a good show are no different than Cowboys fans showing up at the Circus Tent hoping Jerry Jones brings them a Super Bowl champion.

I would have liked something where, let's say, lights go out, Shield comes down and decimates Rock. Punk wins, then the restart. Then Punk beats up Rock again, gets ready to do the GTS, and then the lights go out again. ... Gong ...

Lights come back on, Punk is out. Either Taker is there, which would be a huge pop, or perhaps not and save the confrontation for another time. Rock recovers, looks at Taker if he's there, nods his head, and wins.

Then, when Punk complains how he got screwed, and where's his respect, Undertaker tells him that Rock is from his generation and has his respect, unlike Punk.

Amazing that people can't remember that Ziggler's briefcase is for a cash-in on Goldie, not the WWE title.

I enjoyed the show as a whole. Team Hell No was good, and the Rumble itself has never disappointed me.

True, but this is pro wrestling. Exceptions can be made and explained.

Nah, it's just people don't remember that the cases are assigned to belts.

but this is WWE, now written by former soap opera writers. They forget a marriage is between siblings.

  12. I don't buy but two events per year and that's the Rumble and 'Mania. I love the Rumble, have since I was a kid. I didn't care for how the Rumble match itself ended but I thought it was actually a pretty entertaining match with some great spots. And I know people around here don't care for the Rock swooping in and winning the title but he was my favorite wrestler when I was young and still is. I love seeing him get the strap again and I'll enjoy watching him from now until Mania.

I understand the desire for Punk to retain and defend against Taker (and the idea above which would have had Taker helping Rock win tonight would have been awesome but I feel like the WWE doesn't want to use its two biggest plot points for Mania (the WWE title and Taker's streak) in the same match. They figure a Rock-Cena rematch isn't something most want to say unless the stakes are raised so they add the title element. Punk-Taker could still happen and be awesome with no belts on the line.

I do agree it's a shame that this event was so predictable. They could have swerved one of them at least and still got to the same card at Mania. but that's how it goes, I guess.
