It's week 6, Xan. And I thank you and everyone else who has already sent ballots. With a couple hours until deadline, I've heard from most of the "regulars" and I appreciate that.

Still need six ballots; if you haven't sent yours, there's still two hours until deadline.

    The eye on the Tigers

    By I SHOULD COCO

There are two unbeaten SEC teams as we near the halfway point of the college football season. A show of hands, please, of everyone who thought one of them would be Missouri.

That’s what I thought. But there the Tigers sit, 5-0 with a challenging game between the hedges set for this weekend, and on national TV no less.

Granted, Missouri didn’t play much of a nonconference schedule ... although the win at Indiana was better than Penn State could do. And the Tigers pasted Vanderbilt in Nashville this past week in an impressive SEC opener.

But will Missouri turn into Maryland as it faces its first ranked opponent Saturday morning? I predict the Tigers will do better than that, and one big reason is James Franklin.

The senior QB fits right in among the SEC quarterbacks putting up Tecmo Bowl-level stats; in fact, his 1,407 yards and 13 TDs passing puts Franklin on relatively equal ground with conference stars Aaron Murray and Johnny Manziel. And unlike Murray, Franklin has rushed for more than 250 yards and another TD.

Yeah, yeah, I know ... Georgia’s faced a wee bit tougher schedule than Missouri. But the Tigers already have equalled their win total from last year’s injury-plagued season, and they’re catching the banged-up Bulldogs at the right time.

We had several near-upsets of top 10 teams this past week: Northwestern and Tennessee held fourth-quarter leads on Ohio State and Georgia, while the Washington Huskies were a close fourth-down call away from a chance at defeating Stanford on its home turf.

Could this week finally see the season’s first significant upset? Stay tuned ... because someone’s got the eye of the Tigers.

    ***********************************

As mentioned above, the lack of major upsets means the top of our poll has been rather stable this season. Just a few flip-flops among the SEC teams, really.

We welcome Northern Illinois, Virginia Tech and Auburn to the rankings; the latter two teams have a chance to influence the BCS championship game chase because they play top-10 teams in their leagues.

Finally, Oregon picks up a few No. 1 votes in this week's poll. The Ducks will have their toughest test of the season to date on Saturday night in Seattle; we'll see if U-Dub can stake its claim to contending in the stacked Pac-12 North division.

Here's the rest of the poll:

Any other undefeated SEC team would be in the top 15 by now. This proves Mizzou isn't a real SEC team.

Always interesting to see how and why people vote. Vegas would pretty clearly favor Nebraska, Missouri or Notre Dame over Fresno State or Nothern Illinois on a neutral field, methinks. I'm curious: Do those who ranked the Bulldogs or Huskies higher really believe they'd win head-to-head, or are those just token votes for the best "little guys"?

Fresno State would beat Nebraska this season, even Notre Dame. Not sure about Missouri till I see the Georgia game.

Fresno State can score, with anyone.

I turned my ballot in on time and it didn't get counted.

Tommy, your ballot was counted in this week's poll. That note you quoted was from the previous week.

And we've more or less figured out who has dropped out from the voting ranks. There are 28 voters still casting ballots each week (more or less).

Hang in there everyone ... I have a feeling this is the week when things start to get interesting among the top 10 teams.

Probably the same reason you didn't play your game in our dynasty. Haha
