Strictly to get the Islanders to the floor without having to pay a dime. Thomas is suspended without pay but his salary counts against the cap.

He won't need to worry about visiting the White House with the Islanders.

Thanks for insight, Beef. I know little to nothing of Katz other than I've tired of watching his kid ascend the stage at the draft. Your comment in bold was REALLY striking to me.

    Actually third oldest.

Madison Square Garden is oldest (1968)
    Nassau (1972)
    Rexall (1974)
    Joe Louis (1979)
    Saddledome (1983)

Everything else is 1993 or later.

Everyone knew it was coming but it's official. Prime Minister Stephen Harper's book on the early history of professional hockey will hit the stores in November .

As everyone knows, not a fan of the PM's politics but am very much looking forward to it. And Roy MacGregor has worked with Harper during the editing process.

According to accounts, he's been working on the book for 15 minutes every day for the last 8 years.

My apologies. For some reason I thought MSG was older.

It is a huge issue. Rexall is actually owned by Northlands and rents to the Oilers. Northlands is an agricultural society from the early 1900's. But The Oilers have also usually be on the hook for much of the upkeep and renovations as the building's major tenant. Northlands is supremely pissed that they are being cut out of the new arena.

In all this Oilers talk I should mention I love the Oil Change show and am glad it is back for this shortened season.

The series is well done, though I only caught a couple from last year and none this year yet.
