2013: The NHL season that almost wasn't

It's a bush league move because of the restrictions on the ticket sales. The Sens could sell their tickets at $10.00 each and offer a seat in the Senate for all I care. Don't give a shit

If I'm a Sens Insider (wow, do you get a lapel pin for that), and I buy the tickets, I'll do whatever I want with them, including selling them for a tidy profit.

But their line is, "Oh, no, don't sell your tickets to Leafs fans because they might show up and, you know, be louder than the hard put-upon Sens fans"

The Sens have been whiners since the Rod Bryden days when he held a press conference every day to complain about the state of the franchise.

The Sens had no business getting that franchise. The Hamilton group's offer was much more attractive but the league liked the idea that the Ottawa group was going to pay the entire franchise fee upfront. The rest of their offer was smoke and mirrors.

Like I said, the whiniest motherfuckers in the league

And MLSE management, ticket prices and the fact that Leafs teams have been terrible for over a decade is irrelevant to this argument.

I lack knowledge of this issue, but the basics are enough. You want to sell tickets to the home town fans? Try not being famous for dying like dogs whenever money's on the table.

Eugene Melnyk sure did come across as one in a broadcast interview I heard today.

EDIT: I've never dealt with him but Bryan Murray comes across as sort of a sourpuss, too. Is that a fair or unfair assessment?

I'm guessing you are referring to the whining over the Karlsson injury?

I know Matt Cooke has a reputation, but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary on that particular play. Still, I can't be surprised that a GM and/or owner sides with their own player. Isn't that what you would want them to do?

Very fair on both accounts. Melnyk came off has a huge dick after his interview yesterday. He should just keep his mouth shut.

Calgary has sent Irving down after last night's defensive disaster against St. Louis. I'm fairly surprised. Hartley lamented the "stupid giveaways" in the Herald and those were not the fault of either Irving or MacDonald.

MacDonald's work earned him the start against Dallas. Maybe Abbotsford's schedule will allow Irving some quick work before recall.

Regarding the Stars, heck of comeback last night at Vancouver. Henrik Sedin became the Canucks' all-time leading scorer. The place was rockin', even more than usual. Lehtonen got hurt, Bachman came in, three fights in rapid order and Dallas got out with a win. Pretty gutsy effort.

As much as I enjoy Ralph and Razor, the Dallas studio group will put you to sleep.

And in one of the most boring hockey games I've watched this season, the Leafs shut out a much depleted Sens team 3-0.

I stopped watching after about the halfway point of the second period. I thought I was going to fall asleep.

There were 17 players on both teams who played this year in the AHL. So,basically the Marlies beat Binghamton.

I'd have been pissed if I paid to watch that dreck.

We got Montreal-Philly in the States. Sounded like Scrivens played well.

Scrivens was solid. If he can keep it up the Leafs won't need to look around for another goalie until Reimer can get back

Watching the Avs/Oilers game. Wild. Avs go up 4-1, Oilers tie it up in the third. Duchene has been a force. Brilliant goal and two assists. It's like watching a 80's game.

EDIT: Oilers win 6-4 and had a franchise record of 56 (!!!) shots on net.

In the end the Avs couldn't keep up with the unbelievable speed of Edmonton.

Entertaining as hell. Made the Leafs/Sens game look like a road hockey game played by seniors with walkers

Boy, you've got that right. Playing like a machine of late.

I caught part of the third period, OT and shootout Ducks-Preds. Fasth as to be the early Calder leader. Eight straight wins. Had not heard of the guy a year ago and I know I'm not alone.

That's a pretty impressive record considering the 80s Oilers probably had several games where the shot total was high.
