Capitals beat the Whalercanes 3-0 tonight. If it wasn't for Cam Ward, it would have been at least 6-0. He was freaking magnificent. Predictably, Alex Semin sucked at Verizon.

CheckerCanes - the team is seemingly half-Charlotte right now - are wasting more stellar play from Cam Ward. The great road trip has disappeared in the rear-view mirror.

Meanwhile, Boston looks awfully good. Another 4-1 road win improves the record to 12-2-2 with a lot of games in hand.

    Two losses? That's cute.

I'm usually not a fan of Milbury piling on Ovechkin, but last night's rant was justified. Ovi was horrible.

"You don't General Manage like that! You don't phone it in and trade Roberto Luongo AND Olli Jokinen for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha. You don't trade Zdeno Chara and the draft pick that turned into Jason Spezza for Alexei freaking Yashin."

    /crumbles up notes

"This is just disgusting. DiPietro No. 1 overall???!!!?! In front of Heatley, Gaborik, and Hartnell?"

"Bertuzzi and McCabe for a geriatric Trevor Linden, too???!!?"

"Jesus H. Christ. Give me a break, be a man(ager)!"

    /feigned look of disgust

I've wondered for a year or so if the blooms were coming off Ovechkin's rose. I will certainly defer to you on Caps' knowledge. Anything to it?

What a goal by Max Pacioretty last night against the Maple Leafs.

ouh tHonestly, I'm not one to make excuses, but that looked like a tired team out there last night. Third game in five days, second half of a back-to-back. Flyers probably win anyway, but the effort just wasn't there.

Re: Ovechkin ... he's starting to adjust to the move to the right wing, and for the most part, effort hasn't been an issue. Which is why I'm inclined to think last night was about fatigue as much as anything. If they come out and look awful Saturday in the 'Peg, I may feel differently. Only one team is getting into the dance from the Southeast, and as poorly as the Caps started, they're only four points out of first. I'm actually more concerned about Backstrom. He hasn't shown a lot this year. Thankfully Ribeiro has been phenomenal.

JR will drop 'em with anyone except HC who would dummy his ass any day of the week.
