The thing with Gaborik has always been can he stay healthy over the long haul. That's why Minnesota didn't want to pay him mega dollars. When he's healthy and right, he can be an all-star. He's a guy who can create his own scoring chances and those guys just seem hard to find. In the case of the Rangers, they rank dead last in goals per game (stunning for a team that has Richards, Nash, Callahan, etc. as well). The other guys are good players, but I don't think they have the offensive potential that Gaborik does.

Who knows how he'll do in Columbus?

He and Tortorella clearly didn't work well together. How bad you ask? He waived his no trade clause to go to the Columbus Blue Jackets of all teams. It was basically a get me the fuck outta here, I don't care where, situation.

HC and I were at the Leafs/Rangers game tonight which the Leafs won 4-3 thanks to two goals by Kessel

HC was pretty pumped to see Rick Nash who treated everyone to one of his patented goals ---he had two on the night. Fortunately, he didn't do any more damage.

    The guy is a stud.

They play each other again Wednesday. Must win for the Rangers if they want to stay in the playoff hunt

Torts is an acquired taste, to be sure. Not everyone wants to play for him.

Still think Columbus got the better of the deal if he stays healthy and can produce respectably.

Saw Buffalo the other night for the first time in almost two months. Certainly not a good team by any stretch of the imagination. But they do have Ryan Miller in net and are four points out of a playoff spot in the east. Stranger things have happened.

The Dallas Stars are in the same exact situation in the West — 4 points out with Kari Lehtonen in goal. Only trouble is, saying the Stars have some very green defensemen is being generous.

Avs goalie J.S. Giguere rips teammates a new one:

“It’s embarrassing. I’m embarrassed to be here right now. It’s not even funny,” Giguere continued.

“I don’t know what it is. I’ve been around for 15 years in this league and I don’t know what it is. I don’t know why we seem like we don’t care at points. I don’t know.”

As a Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe winner, that 's a particularly harsh assessment of the team.

It seemed like Dallas punted with the trades (Morrow, Jagr, Roy) they made at the deadline. I've seen them a fair bit throughout the season and they just seemed like an odd mix of young and old. I'd be shocked if they make a push these last three weeks.
