My son's middle name is Jonathan after Captain Serious, but if the Penguins were offering a healthy (not that such a thing ever exists) Crosby for him in a trade, I'd drive Toews to the airport personally to see him off.

So would I. But that's about it. I would take Toews over Malkin and Ovechkin.

But I wouldn't ever trade for Crosby if it would cost me my own franchise's cornerstone. He's one dirty hit from going Full Lindros.

Love Toews, I like the Yzerman comparison, he is one of the best two way players in the worl and he'd be a very deserving Hart winner but Crosby is the best player in the world.

I'd take Toews over those 2 as well.

That's an interesting decision for a team to make. I would risk it knowing full well it could blow up in my face.

Getzlaf was horrible last season, Ducks missed the playoffs. Getzlaf had a great season this year, Ducks won the Pacific Division. Just sayin'

Thought that was a bit of a weird comparison as well.

But Tavares is getting the big push right now because it is the Islanders and they've been godawful forever, and I think people are looking at this as his potential finally being fulfilled as a No. 1 pick. He's also a new name to the discussion so it's something different for the talking heads to talk about.

In all reality I think it's Toews. The best player on the best team. If Crosby had stayed healthy he walks away with it. If Ovechkin wasn't MIA for the first month of the season, he'd be a legitimate contender.

And in other news, it's a good thing the Canucks didn't trade Luongo after all

Crosby missed a month with an injury off a fluke play. Ovechkin missed a month with ... well, with no issue other than he played poorly. Whether that's attributed to learning a new position in a new system is irrelevant. Just because he finished strong doesn't discount how bad he was in the early going. Neither of those two should win it, but Ovie has a better chance since his scorching streak is on voters' minds now.

My opinion is that the finalists should be Tavares, Toews and Crosby. Tavares should win. Consistent all year, and the Isles don't sniff the playoffs without him. Had Columbus found its way into playoffs (still a very outside chance, but probably not gonna happen), Bobrovsky would have a chance at being in the final three.

Tavares is a minus player. How do you get past that?

Because plus/minus is a ridiculous statistic.

And he's minus-2. It's not like he's minus-12. And if you want to look deeper into this fairly meaningless stat, he's also plus-7 in his past 15 games as the Isles have gone 11-1-3.

Even if you completely ignore Toews' contributions on defense and in the faceoff circle, he has more points, too.

    So, I win.
