I think that could happen. Maybe not those two teams, but I think there will be enough interest that they may be able to get something decent in return for him.

I could see them getting a second-rounder for him.

What I'm expecting at season's end:

FIRED! -- Mike Smith, Atlanta (for missing the playoffs again), Ron Rivera, Carolina (Gettleman finally decides he wants his own coach), Rex Ryan, Jets (well, duh)
Either fired or resigns -- Tom Coughlin, Giants (I could see him agreeing to resign)
Interim coach who won't get the HC job -- Tony Sparano, Oakland (well, duh)
I WANT A DIVORCE! -- Jim Harbaugh, 49ers (irreconcilable differences, you know)
One more year but leash is shortened -- Gus Bradley, Jacksonville; Marc Trestman, Chicago
It's freakin' Dan Snyder, what do you expect -- Jay Gruden, Washington

It'd be funny if the only four openings were the two NYC jobs and the two Bay Area jobs.

I think Smith is pretty close to being a lock to go in Atlanta, but it would be interesting to see if anything changes if they make the playoffs (it shouldn't).

    Not sure on Carolina.

I think Trestman is safe. I don't know what to think about Gruden. Bradley wouldn't be a surprise either way.

Schefter had a story yesterday that Harbaugh might not be done in SF. I think the possibility of him going to Oakland might be a bit much for Baalke and the ownership to take.

I won't believe it until the extension is signed, but Schefter and Harbaugh are tight going way back, so it's an interesting story to say the least.

If you're an NFL team with a vacancy, do you take a flier on Briles? Or does his age scare you off? That's the only reason I can think of avoiding him.

Harbaugh has a year left on his contract. He can't be traded somewhere unless he wants to go. As badly as the 49ers want him out, he holds all the cards.

Coaches generally get (at least) one qb of their choice. I think Marrone might survive, but they still need a long-term answer at QB.

The story that Gruden may be on thin ice in DC is interesting. What he might not of understood when he threw Griffin under the bus, was that every player realizes (whether he agreed with Gruden or not) that the coach doesn't have his players' backs.

After yesterday's performance by the Saints, do we now add Sean Payton to the list of coaches who may be out of a job?

    No way.

I'd be curious if the other players feel that way. Normally, I would completely agree, but I get the sense RG3 isn't actually beloved by his teammates.

The pissing contest could get interesting. The Niners can sit there and threaten not to fire him, but if they wait too long they could miss out on the top assistants that one would expect to be sought after for the openings (Hamilton, Bevell, Gase).

I saw in a couple places that teams think Mike Singletary will get another HC job this off-season.

Which team will be that stupid?
