Late to the party, sorry, but why would Williams leave Marquette for Virginia Tech? Just don't get it, unless he's trying to out-run potential difficulties.

He took a pay cut too, although he did get a 7-year deal.

UVa seems to be in a nice spot with Bennett getting the program going as Krzyzewski, Roy Williams and Boeheim near retirement age. Pitino is 61 and joining the ACC next year. How long will he stick it out?

Could we be in a situation five years from now where Virginia and Virginia Tech have the ACC's "elite" coaches? That's hard to imagine, but who knows?

I wonder how long Brian Gregory gets at Georgia Tech. That seems like a bit of a sleeping giant.

Billy Donovan extended through 2018-19, but no longer has the clause that he can't seek NBA employment.

After the debacle with the Magic, I can't imagine him going to the NBA or that a NBA owner would want him, or at least want him enough to give him the kind of money it would take for him to leave.

It only takes one owner though and if he wins a third title, he might decide there's nothing left for him to do at Florida.

Bianchi wrote a column last week about the Knicks going after him, and unless there is some link between him and Phil Jackson that no one else knows about, I can't imagine that happening under any circumstances.

Shaka Smart is the smart bet to take over. He's got the Duke style in temperament and style without being an acolyte of St Mike . He's above reproach with quality head coaching experience. Krzyzewski wont leave behind a lousy team, ala Gary Williams, so his replacement will have a nice transition. Smart will make Duke look good, which is more important institutionally than placating Mikey

I don't see it. If he goes to Marquette or Wake or somewhere else and has success, then maybe... I know you don't let boosters make your hires, but I think a Shaka Smart hire at Duke would not be a popular move since there are probably 4-5 solid candidates with an obvious link to Duke. Given the level of success Coach K has had, I can't imagine Duke would hire his replacement without his blessing. That's not to say Coach K would criticize Duke hiring Smart, but I'm guessing he wouldn't be his choice.

Duke could also be a place where you don't want to be the guy who replaces the guy.

No question... If that's the case, I would expect Wojo to get the job.

If true, right out of the Pitino playback. Announce you want to stay at Manhattan
and then leave the next day.
