Do you think it was because of her age or because she finished several years later? Since, I'm assuming her date of birth is in her bio, I'm guessing it was the latter.

There was a similar situation with David Cutcliffe when he was at Ole Miss. For years the narrative was that he was offered a football scholarship to Alabama by Bear Bryant, but was unable to play due to a knee injury suffered in high school.

In reality, he was never offered a football scholarship, but a scholarship to be a student manager, which he accepted.

I know O'Leary is the posterchild for this, but what he did was far worse than just saying he graduated when he didn't. He lied about playing football and lied about a Master's Degree from a school that didn't exist.

Makes sense now. He's always looked more like a manager than a player.

If you want to be completely technical, the claim is not inaccurate. It's misleading. But he was offered a scholarship by the football coach, so you could call that "a football scholarship" it just wasn't as a player.

Based on what we now know about NC athletes and academics I am going to take a wild guess on Vince Carter.

Yeah, but the implication (encouraged by the Cutcliffe camp) was that he would have played football at Alabama if not due to injury. But in reality, he wasn't even a very good high school player.

Once the O'Leary shit hit the fan, they cleared up the discrepancy.

Never really established but it was a bit of embarrassment at the time.

I think it was more because of everything that had happened under the previous regime. I'm guessing the university figured it was lucky to be able to get someone as well-known as Eddie Jordan and decided to ignore that he didn't have his degree.

Most schools don't check and you could argue that they either don't care or are banking that something like that will never be found out, when it is, it's usually by accident. There was also the incident awhile back when the school screwed up and said a coach had one Masters degree in two subjects while the coach was claiming he had two Masters degrees in two subjects. As it turned out the coach was being truthful. It was the school's fault and a guy lost out on a job as a result.

The places that hire search firms (usually not elite programs) to find coaches who are most likely to find out about this kind of stuff. The O'Leary stuff was found out by accident and not by Notre Dame.

I remember ESPN making a big deal of it. But that's the first time I've heard what was actually required of him.

I get the sense that's not uncommon, even for non-celebrities.
