There are some schools that don't accept physical education credit and that helps academic standards a bit because it makes it a lot harder to accept JC transfers, mostly guys who didn't qualify coming out of HS.

I don't know if there is a really good example of a public school that holds players to a higher standard than the other schools. Maybe UVA. I've heard that about Penn State and Michigan, but I think it's complete bullshit.

There's not a school in the country that does that.

    The Service Academies do.

Even the service academies are easier to get into if your an athletic superstar, especially in a revenue-generating sport.

    Obviously, they're not taking morons...

The kicker on my high school team went to West Point. There is no way in hell he would have gotten in if he wasn't one of the top kickers in the state. He wasn't stupid, but he wasn't anywhere close to the level that it takes to get into any of those schools.

Pretty much. Fans were never satisfied with Tubby, even after the 98 title.

At the student orientation in 2010 at UVA it was explained that the school admitted around 3,340 freshman a year. 3,200 went through the application process and 140 athletes went through a seperate process. I suspect that if you are a five star recruit you would get waved through.

Right. if you're a recruited athlete, you can get into the service academies on what is called a commandant's appointment. Regular students have to be appointed by their congressman.

I was talking about once they are admitted. Sorry I wasn't clearer.

Looks like I dodged a bullet -- or my least favorite Tiger coach could have swapped jobs with my least favorite Vol coach.

RT @GaryParrishCBS: Multiple sources have told @CBSSports that Missouri’s Frank Haith is now involved in Tulsa’s coaching search.

Edit: All indications are Haith is taking the Tulsa gig.

    Even Wikipedia says so.

What if what you needed was right under your nose the whole time and you didn't even know it?
