If you wanna' talk age tampering I think the one pitcher from Las Vegas changed my oil at Jiffy Lube last week.

I found out that my old Little League (Mid-Island LL on Staten Island) is going to be honored on the 50th anniversary of their '64 LLWS championship. I joined the league the following year and the guys on the '64 WS team, some the older brothers of my friends, were heroes to me. The coach, Bill Rodgers, worked at Procter & Gamble with my dad and later opened up a sporting goods store. Bill took a an interest in me as an infielder and spent hours with me. Nobody hit ground balls at 12-year-old kids harder than Bill. It was intimidating to the other teams to watch his teams take infield.

That team remains the only NYC team to win the LLWS. Here's a picture of the team at City Hall with Mayor Wagner following its ticker tape parade:

That was a really well played game on both sides last night; my compliments to both teams. That catch by the LV RF in the 1st was beautiful as was the tag by the Penn C at the plate. And LV's lefty who came in was throwing gas.

I've been to that Jiffy Lube. But he showed me his birth certificate.

She gone. Chicago vs. Vegas for the U.S. title. Was 13-2 the first time they played.

Get your money on the Little Bryce Harpers.

Taney looked exhausted in the first couple of innings of this game. I think all of the hype finally wore them down. Still a nice tournament for a team that doesn't even have a field of its own.

Kind of surprised how few of the Vegans named Harper as their favorite player. Sure Trout plays closer but....

I'm sure they know him and his dad better than anyone.

Jackie Robinson West just upset Las Vegas in what was easily the best game of the championship.

That was wild. I posted on the other thread that no way could Chicago win, but damn did that kid bear down pitching. And the defense was crazy. Two double plays, I know.

Only drawback was the Nevada coach forcing his pitcher out there in the fifth inning when he clearly couldn't throw. That's the gross part of youth baseball.

Great game, but Vegas should still be alive and get another crack at it. It's either double elimination or it's not.
