I'd take Embiid over a player projected to be little more than a role player. If you are in line to get a player who won't make an impact this year anyway, may as well draft one with an excuse. Never too early to start tanking.

And what the hell is going on with the Warriors? I'm guessing Lacob has gotten involved.

consider the competition Embiid has played in his career. 28 games against weak to decent college players and teams. Not very strong High School competition. He is unproven and oft injured. Less a prospect than a project. His upside can be impressive but is speculative but not evident.

What the hell? Are you under the impression that Kansas plays NAIA ball?

The competition he's played is no different in nature than that faced by Andrew Wiggins (in fact, as his college teammate, Wiggins played the EXACT same schedule), Jabari Parker, Julius Randle, Aaron Gordon, etc. In case you hadn't noticed, nearly ALL the top picks only play one season of college ball nowadays. That's no more of a legitimate knock against Embiid than it is against nearly every other top lottery pick in recent years.

I swear, Yab, the more you post on the basketball threads the worse you look.

I'd also guess with the cutting and jumping that Jordan did, his feet got just as much stress as most big men.

The health issues are scary, but there are a lot of reasons basketball-wise that he was at Kansas and not somewhere like Tulane. To read Abbott's description, I thought we were talking about Tito Horford. Embiid looks pretty polished in that video. Any team who has a medical staff that thinks Embiid will be OK would be foolish not to pick him.

Other than Zydrunas Ilgauskas has there ever been a big man that overcame microfracture surgery to have a successful NBA career? Ilgauskas was on the shelf for almost three years and came back to have a very solid NBA career...and his first injury was when he was 20 years old...so there is hope for Embied. However, as an NBA general manager I wouldn't wager my career on it.

His aorta must already be significantly enlarged to where surgery will be necessary. I have Marfan's, but not as severely, obviously. Odds are Kevin McHale has it, he's got all the body type indicators.

McHale had the same foot injury as Embiid and missed 14 games. Sasha Kaun had the same injury at Kansas and is now a productive veteran in the Russian pro league.

It ain't good, but not everyone who gets it, particularly early in their career winds up like Yao or Walton.

They're saying 6-9 months and possibly a year for Embiid, so it's safe to assume he has it worse than McHale did.
