    Is that true?
According to USA Today, Heat owe him 20.5 this year and 22.1 next year.
I don't know all the cap rules, but I read somewhere that that a non-Heat team could offer him about 22 million (an estimate of 35% of the salary capt) for his first year, with a 7.5% raise for next year. Not sure if that's right or not. And I'm not saying he'll sign for the absolute max he can get wherever he goes (or stays) but it doesn't seem like his current Heat salary is far and away better than he'd do elsewhere.

If Wade opts out, Riley should offer him the veteran minimum.

I believe it was Zach Lowe on a BS Report after the finals that said Wade's value around the league right now is around $12M a year, so I think he would have to take a pay cut, unless he was willing to sign with a team that would overpay him because they're in win-now mode for no good reason. (Meaning: Knicks, Bucks, Cavs, Kings, that type of team.)

However, incumbent teams have a big advantage when re-signing guys, because they're allowed to go over the salary cap to do so. They have to be willing to pay the luxury tax in most cases, along with things like penalties for being in repeat luxury tax status, but an individual player can almost always make more staying with his current team as opposed to jumping to a new team. LeBron is probably one of the rare exceptions - He has clear legacy and branding value that is enhanced by him trying to maximize how many championships he can get. Him taking a big pay cut now would probably be paid for X times over in the future if it gets him closer to Jordan's number.

But doesn't Miami have to be careful about the cap this season, because they've already paid the luxury tax three times, and they get hit with pretty stiff penalties for breaking it once more in the next two seasons?

LeBron to Chicago would have a ton of potential to be fun, if Rose can ever keep it together for a full season or two.

Every time a big-time free agent comes on the market, everyone says he should sign with Chicago, but no one ever does.

That's kind of the point. At this point, no team would give Wade a max deal. He's just not worth it anymore. Bosh might not be either.

That's interesting. I wonder why. I could see LeBron not wanting to play where Jordan did, but that shouldn't impact anyone else. Good coach, good city, good young talent.

Did you watch any of the playoffs this year?

Nobody who doesn't have to is paying Wade $20 million.

Sorry, my bad. Now that you say that, I might have misread. Since "him" is closest to LeBron in the sentence, I thought him was talking about LeBron. And I thought that was silly.
But you're right, him is probably talking about Wade.
    My bad.

Right, but I think everybody understands why no player wants to go to the Knicks.
