One would also think someone like Mark Jackson would be an immediate upgrade from Kidd.

I wonder how teams deal with the Free Agency period opening. Figure everyone wants a very few players to be their "first" call, is it like a radio promo where the player's agent sets up a bunch of phone lines? If you're going after multiple players do you have the coach call one guy, the GM another and your top player another?
The funny thing is, if FA follows form...most of these deals have been brokered for weeks.

Terrific read with a ton of reporting. And I enjoyed the writing.

    Zach went to town.

Yeah, you have to love a team that pays that much in luxury tax to win 44 games.

Lowe is a god damn machine, and I think he eventually gets hired by an NBA team, like Hollinger, although Lowe is more of a scout and numbers guy. He's back today with another 2,000 words or so on the start of the NBA off-season.

Tough break for Patty Mills, who would have been a hot name in free agency but is out for seven months after having surgery on his rotator cuff.

If Jason Kidd thinks Cal, the Nets, the Suns or the Mavericks constitute playing in a small market, as he stated at his presser, Milwaukee will be a rude awakening. As it is the Bucks are probably no. 6 in the state after the Packers, Brewers, Wisconsin football, basketball and hockey.

Carmelo's agent: Who am I speaking to?
Hawks GM: This is Joe Blow, GM of the Atlanta Hawks. We're interested in signing Carmelo.
Agent: Great! You're the fifth caller! Too bad we're looking for the sixth caller, numbnuts!
