Does Love play defense? That seems essential to be ranked at that level.

I'd have a hard time putting Love in the top 5. I think the top 3 is pretty obvious, James, Durant, Paul... Is Love better than Westbrook, Harden, Curry, George, Howard, Griffin? I'm sure he fits in there somewhere, but not sure where.

Not quite sure to be honest, but you look at the deals guys like John Wall got in Washington, or even Lillard's in Portland(3rd highest contract ever), companies dont really care anymore where they play as long as the guy can play because they'll find a way to make them a big deal.

Media is everywhere now. You don't have to live in New York to get exposure anymore. Every market is now a giant media market.

To a degree, but more people are fans of teams in bigger cities or traditional powers. I bet Carmelo Anthony sells more jerseys and has better endorsements playing for the Knicks than he would if he went to Memphis. Kevin Garnett showed up in a lot more adidas ads playing for Boston than he did in Minnesota.

I think it makes a difference. Obviously, Kevin Durant is getting plenty of attention playing in one of the smallest markets, but that number would just go up if he was in NY or LA. How much have we heard about Jeremy Lin since he went to Houston?

This is an unfair comparison to Lin, who's a much better player at his sport, but his fame in New York rested on one stretch of improbable heroics oddly similar to those of Tim Tebow with the Broncos. In Houston, he's a competent guard on a team with two other really big stars and is treated accordingly.

I'm thinking it doesn't make as big a difference for the guys at the very top. LeBron was a superstar playing for a high school in Ohio. He might make a little more in the biggest markets, but people are on his bandwagon whereever he goes. It's probably to a lesser degree for Durant, but Kobe, Shaq, Jordan, Bird, Magic, Wilt. Those guys would have all been huge even if they played in Buffalo or Fort Wayne.

It's guys like Carmello, Dwight Howard, Love, etc. who really see a significant increase in their earning potential in New York or LA.

True. He never should have gotten the level of hype that he got during that stretch, and that doesn't happen anywhere else. He's a very respectable, solid player, but there was zero chance of him living up to the Linsanity hype during that stretch.

What's funny is Houston is rumored to be offering Lin to the Knicks in a package deal for Carmelo.

I don't remember Chris Paul having national ads before he got to LA, at least nothing close to what he has now.

Yeah, I don't think Blake Griffin would do as many national ads either if he traded places with Love.

Well, Russell Westbrook was still able to secure that "Flattiza" campaign. :D
