2014 NFL draft thread (no longer too early)

    Then don't make stupid statements.

It certainly wasn't the NFL, but the USFL was a decent, competitive spring league with some big-time players. When they tried to make it something it wasn't and subsequently ran out of money, it became a joke.

Even if you contend the USFL was always a joke -- I disagree -- that's probably not your best argument, since NFL teams have taken kickers or punters in the first round several times: Ray Guy, Janikowski, Steve Little, Russell Erxleben, Charlie Gogolak. Not sure if that's all of them -- I remember Tony Franklin going early but I'm pretty sure he wasn't a No. 1.

I'm an NFL historian. Save the lecture for the kids who need it, please.
I think it's a joke for a team in an 18-team league to take a fucking kicker in the first round with the amount of talent available in that dispersal draft.
It's not like they had a lot of picks to play with. There were only three rounds.

Well, if I'd known you were an NFL historian ... Harrumph, harrumph.

A team making a ridiculously bad pick does not translate to the league being a joke.

    Two words: The Raiders.

I went to a USFL game, dude.
It was a joke. Fans knew it.
Worst snowball fight I've ever seen at a spectator event.
That's how riveting the product was.

Oh, he gave the lecture to somebody who desperately needed it. You just don't know how to listen.

There is certainly evidence you can use to make an argument that the USFL was a joke, but your half-assed "research" failed to come up with it. One ridiculous draft choice doesn't cut it. As joe pointed out, NFL teams have done plenty of that, too.

Five minutes of research on Google and you went to one game and you think you know something. Typical fart boy.

It's unfortunate you're humping my leg tonight, but we all know you've got to hump something male and unwilling.
It's just what you do around here.

Again, this from the guy who swears he doesn't pull this crap on the NFL threads.

Regarding your colorful analogy, you seem far too interested in having your leg humped, fart boy.

Then try backing up the claim you made in the first place rather than attacking anybody who points out the weaknesses in your post.

Does one idiotic pick by one team make a pro sports league a joke? You made the argument. Would you like to amend that statement or are you going to try to support it?

I have done some writing and research on the USFL. I stand by my comment.
Sorry to hurt your feewings, but a league with teams that blow payroll not once but several times is a straight-up joke.
They still f'n owe people money.
Joe and you might have some kind of sentimental appreciation for the league. I don't. It was crap and fans knew it.

Still not going to address the point you were called out on, are you? You claimed that one bad draft pick was evidence that the league was a joke. It was not.

As to your other points, I said all along that there was clearly evidence to support calling the USFL a joke. The men running it certainly did a tremendous job of running it into the ground. The product wasn't as bad as you make it out to be, but it was certainly inferior to the NFL.

It's not about feelings at all. I thought it was fun to watch, but that is through the eyes of a football junkie teenager. Hell, I even watched CFL games back then, and that was an even weaker level of play.
