Low-hanging fruit. I thought Batman was just having a bad day, but it looks like he's had a bad six months of posting.

 

In 10 years will Mr. Clowney be likened more to Bruce Smith or Aundray Bruce?

 

Bruce was surely a bust as the No. 1 overall choice, but he did hang around and play at a reasonable NFL starter level for 10 years.

If you draft someone named Ha Ha, is the joke on you?

Who names their kid "Ha Ha"?

 

I know the Falcons wanted Clowney very much and were convinced he could be a HOF caliber player. But the price to move up to No. 1 was insane: Matt Ryan or Julio Jones, two No. 1 picks, a No. 2 pick and some other stuff. That would decimate the core of your team. Just. Not. Worth. It.

 

Jimmy Johnson's old rule of thumb was to avoid drafting dumb guys.
I think that's a strategy always worth revisiting in the first round.
