I'm sure that Marist guy the Dolphins drafted will be a better pro than Jackson Jeffcoat, the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

  2. Reading the draft grades this morning... Lots of As, Bs and Cs.
The whole AFC North is receiving high marks - opinions vary on Cleveland.
No team is getting a D or a failing grade.

Which tells you how useless the grades are.

Yeah, how about ignoring draft grades for a couple years. Hell, at least until these guys have played a freakin' game.

I like that nothing is legitimate until ESPN confers validation.

Or nobody owed Mack Brown a favor and took a seventh-round flyer on one of his guys?
Think about this, too: The NFL draft started in 1936, and Texas didn't have a player taken that year either. So this is only the third time EVER that Texas failed to have a player drafted.

Now that these guys are drafted, they'll sign contracts with their new teams. Their value is dependent on where they were selected. A number-one overall pick, for example, makes more than an undrafted free agent.

But that doesn't mean undrafted free agents can't make teams. Some do, every single year.

The end goal for all of these players is to contribute on Sundays.

I have absolutely no problem with draft grades. I think they're great reading.

But when the grader bottoms out with C or C-, that's a quick sign to dismiss them. Don't be a chickenshit. If some organization's draft sucked, say it sucked.

Kiper gave the Seahawks a D-plus for the 2011 draft. Various other places gave them F's.

They got Sherman, K.J. Wright, Malcolm Smith and James Carpenter. That's three full-time or part-time starters plus the Super Bowl MVP.

Immediate draft grades are worthless. Recruiting rankings are more accurate.

Doesn't matter so much that they're worthless. Of course they're worthless. They're fun reading and harmless.
