McDaniels with Denver gives you the perfect example of why things aren't going to end well for Cleveland with the current regime.

When McDaniels was hired, Jim Goodman was supposed to be the man with final say on personnel, with his son and McD giving input and Brian Xanders managing the salary cap. Then the Broncos fired the Goodmans and that put McD and Xanders in charge when neither guy was qualified.

It may be true that Pettine isn't in charge of personnel, but you yanked out your main personnel guys at the point they are supposed to prepare for the draft. What do you think that does to Cleveland's draft preparations now?

If the Browns have even an 8-8 record next year, they ought to rename the Lombardi Trophy after Pettine. The weight of the anchors he's been thrown is about that of the Hoover Dam.

If they draft a QB with the No. 4 pick and that guy is ready to start immediately, it could get interesting. I'm not saying a .500 record would be likely, but if you get a good young QB who can feed the ball to Josh Gordon, they could be a lot better than they were last season.

I don't expect that to happen, but with the parity in the NFL, there's a reason why worst-to-first sometimes happens.

The more time that passes, the better the more distant past people look by comparison.

The 2012 Colts showed everybody an awful team can be rebuilt cheaply and durably.
Turned into a playoff team in less than a year, improving by nine wins with $35 million in dead money.
You shouldn't have to wait for a terrible management team to get its shit together anymore.

Nope, you just need to get the first draft pick when a once-in-a-generation QB prospect comes along. Piece of cake.

Just make sure you draft an Andrew Luck to help that process along.

The Browns went to the playoffs three years after reboot.
Piloted by an undrafted, former NFL Europe quarterback.
    There's no excuse.

So he's going to be better than Manning and Brady?

They fall in the 20-25 year window, right?

When he came out, you heard a lot of "best QB prospect coming out of college since Elway." That would make him a once-in-a-generation prospect.
