Pulling goalies with two down is a fairly recent phenomena.

If the other team scores to go up three with a minute or so left to go, the game is over. The team is basically saying, "You've won" and are moving on to the next game. No sense letting the other team rack up more goals

And two minutes left in a hockey game is entirely different than a football or basketball game. Even if a team has their one timeout left, it's only 30 seconds.

Patrick Roy says it's never too early to pull the goalie.

Thanks, JR. I hope it wasn't a dumb why-don't-they-just-put-a-super-fat-guy-in-as-goalie type question.

Could someone more in the loop than myself explain why the Bruins and Canadiens get two days off after a Saturday afternoon game while the Rangers and Penguins play back to back on Sunday and Monday nights with travel thrown in?

NHL scheduling is just one of those random universe kinda things

Have no idea but it probably has to do with facility availability.

Nothing on the Interwebs but a guy I know with very good sources with the Whalercanes tells me that Kirk Muller and his staff have been canned.

    Correct.

Muller, Dave Lewis and Johnny Mac gone. Rod Brind'Amour retained and goaltending coach Greg Stefan re-assigned to the scouting department.

I can see Raleigh being Barry Trotz's landing place.

Sad, sad, sad. Please tell me the same city that gave the world Arcade Fire isn't banging out the house for what amounts to a Kristen Wiig character.

Coaching vacancies: Nashville. Washington. Carolina. Vancouver. Florida. Maybe Toronto or San Jose.
