Time to cheer on the *other* German team now, I guess.

    The varsity. :)

BTW, U.S. Soccer is going to have a fight on its hands to keep Klinsmann. British press is already clamoring to boot Hodgson and bring in Klinsi.

England should snag Roberto Martinez from Everton. Brilliant coach and they play exciting soccer.

Tim Howard's agent better be on the offensive tonight for endorsements while the iron's hot.

I watched it again, and there was nothing close to a foul.

Seconded. Love that guy, and I hope to see him more on ESPN coverage when he's available. He's been tremendous.

I'd be astonished if Klinsmann made a move like that. He's lived in California for years, but on top of that, the US gig is a better job than England. The expectations in England are entirely out of whack, and the talent level isn't close to what they think. The expectations in the US are realistic and the job doesn't have near the level of bullshit you have to wade through in England.

I absolutely agree with all of that. Klinsi can be USMNT coach for the rest of his life as far as I'm concerned. But the FA can make it very much worth his while monetarily if it wants to. And they will certainly back up the Brinks truck and have a go at him.

He has the perfect job now -- savior of US Soccer. It's more fun than being the next Sven.

It's weird to see some people on my Twitter feed — prominent sportswriters — still loyal to Bob Bradley and dogging Klins for this World Cup. I thought Yedlin was really fun to watch, a burst of energy. And Green? Well, that goal was just awesome. I wish Donovan had been on the squad, but I do really like the way Klins carries himself. I loved hearing him talk shit to Mexico too.

Yeah, there is ZERO chance of him going to England. I don't even think he'd want that gig if he was unemployed. Well, maybe then ...

I think that we should have played Dempsey next to another forward tonight and that was obvious after Germany. It would have taken a load of pressure off of an overworked Bradley and Jones.

Otherwise, his tactics were good and his selections were decent. But I think you bring your best 23 and in no way should Landon have been left out.

In retrospect, Yedlin should have started ahead of DMB. But that was a minor point. Next WC, we will have Green, Yedlin, Bradley, Cameron, Fabian, Jozy, Omar and Nordic Messi.

At the end of the day, after 90 minutes in a knockout game, we had a wide open shot from 8 yards to go into the quarter finals of a World Cup.

Yeah, other than whatever personal affinity they had for Bradley I really don't get that at all. Those teams were a crushing bore to watch. He did what he could with some fairly limited talent, but I'd hardly look back on that era with any great fondness.

I'm not on board with all the decisions Klinsmann has made -- the Donovan decision remains ridiculous, Cameron shouldn't have seen the field again after the Portugal game, and he shouldn't have increased the dependance on Michael Bradley for the Belgium game when Bradley's been pretty awful all tournament -- but overall, I think Klinsmann has done a really solid job. The US played a far more talented team today and they absolutely could have stolen the win. The team far exceeded my expectations for this cup.

I can now comfortably shift my rooting interest entirely to the Netherlands.
