Speaking of 2018, I chuckled at today's AP Sports Digest.

Luckily, that "devastated" line is not in the copy that moved. Because if the USMNT is devastated by not having a 39-year-old GK, then we are screwed in 2018.

Speaking of extra time, okay I'm fine with pitch, match, equalizer...I know the difference between a penalty (which is kicked) and a foul (which is called by a referee), I get it...but the sport really needs a new term that differentiates extra time (in regulation) and extra time (post-regulation).

In regulation it's stoppage time. Sometimes referred to as injury time, since that's the primary causes of the stoppages.

I can't imagine Howard will be back, or that he plans to come back. And Guzan is not quite on his level, but he's pretty damn good. I'm fine with him in goal in 2018 as well. And as LTL said, Dempsey would be good as a sub or in a supplemental role in the next cycle (if he doesn't start breaking down before then). No way in hell will he be a key player on the team. If he is, we're in trouble.

And as someone else did, I picked Colombia and Belgium to go to the semis. So put all your money on Brazil and Argentina to pitch shutouts and win by at least 3. :)

Player for player, would any of our starting 11 make Belgium's starting 11? I don't think so, even at GK.

Probably not. They had subs who would be the best player on the US team.

The Brit snobs that ESPN had doing the games did a very poor job of explaining things. The guys on Univision
did a much better job, albeit in Spanish.

I'm with you, right up to GK. He's one of the world's best. That game may have been ugly without him.

Yeah, but their guy won La Liga and almost the Champions League. I love Timmy, but game by game, he is a hair below the super top tier.

OK. You may be right, then. He did sure stand on his head this particular Tuesday afternoon, though, didn't he?

Yes he did. I think yesterday's performance puts him above Friedel and Keller as the top US keeper of all time.
