Sensational effort by the Dutch. An absolute royal beatdown and four years of pent-up frustration from the South Africa final. As a big Dutch fan, honestly didn't see that coming. Who did?

    Quadrupleheader Saturday!

    Maybe in the US-Ghana game.

Ya know, I'm seriously wondering if the US will go scoreless in this World Cup.

Why? Ghana hasn't shut out the US in each of the last two World Cup games. Portugal has some injury troubles, and the last time the US played Germany, they scored four goals ... albeit against a Germany B-plus team or so, but still.

Looking forward to seeing Colombia play. Too bad they're playing Greece. When Greece plays, I always fear a 0-0 game.

Buffon won't play for Italy tonight after twisting his ankle in training. His deputy, PSG's Salvatore Sirigu, has eight caps; the third-choice keeper is basically just along for the ride.

I can't speak for Mark, of course... but I filled out an online pool where I predicted the score of each of the first round games, and realized when I was done that I have the US getting shut out in the first round.

Short reason: I think the US is a mediocre team in a good group. I have no faith in any offense that counts on Jozy Altidore to make a key contribution. I think Klinsmann spent the past few weeks lowering expectations and building excuses. Realistically they will probably score somewhere along the way, but I think this is going to be a bleak tournament for the Americans.

And Sirigu has bruised ribs. He's healthy enough to play, but he's hurting.

This. I figure the best chance may come against Ghana.

That was a brilliant goal by Costa Rica to tie Uruguay in the second half.

    Second one wasn't bad either!

Wow. Don't see two quick goals like that very often.

And Costa Rica leads. This would be an enormous upset.
