South Korean keeper parries it away but Russia puts the rebound in for the equalizer!

Why do you keep calling them goals? Call them points like they do in other sports.

Can we talk about sports talk radio in certain places "attempting" to talk about this World Cup and not doing basic research? So many former journalists do the annoying radio personality thing and somehow forgot how to do research. Can't imagine another sport would get that kind of treatment, especially with so much material out there. It's not hard...

Other than that, how about FIFA scheduling Brazil's second game before Group H has even played? Amazing.

English and Scottish fixtures are out today. Not World Cup-related, but I figure this is more useful than the soccer thread.

Man City-Liverpool on the second weekend is the first major clash -- Man City open with Newcastle away.

Neither the Yankees nor the Red Sox have been scoring many points lately.

Yes, yes I do: http://deadspin.com/mike-francesa-has-a-lot-of-dumb-questions-about-soccer-1592143944 (Note: uggggghhhhhh)

But here in good ol' Boston 98.5 The Sports Hub has people on talking about players and announcers and not getting names right and just laughing. Felger likes the World Cup, but he's far from anywhere near strong suited for this discussion. Top it off that they jump down people's throats when they don'y know a hockey stat or a baseball players name or something, but when someone corrects them on soccer because they can't do the basic research they laugh it off and say, "well come on, at least we're talking about it," which is like someone writing a column and spewing incorrect information and them jumping at the chance to correct a writer and call them an idiot. Whatever. I'm done with this part.

In other news: Portugal without one of the World Cup's best left backs for the remainder of the World Cup, http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jun/17/fabio-coentrao-hugo-almeida-portugal-injured-world-cup

Chris Russo prefaced his tirade on bad officiating at a particular game by saying that he didnt watch the game, but heard it on the radio.

I covered soccer, and I covered any number of Olympic sports where I had no clue (judo! synchronized swimming!) and the only way to do that without making a complete ass of yourself is to admit ignorance and deal with it as a learning experience where others make the salient points for you. But since talk radio rests on the conceit that hosts know everything about everything and are damn loud about it, the hosts would rather make asses of themselves. It's good business.

Did you see the Stanley Cup Finals last week? Jonathan Quick and Henrik Lundqvist sure did a great job of keeping the other team from scoring points.

Russia-Korea was rather entertaining in the second half.
