Someone smarter than me explain why that third goal wasn't offside? I thought in that situation (two guys clear) the pass had to be backwards.

    Naw.

First Spain loses twice. Then England loses twice. Italy loses. Switzerland loses. Even freakin' Brazil got in a scoreless draw with Mexico, of all people. Australia loses twice (albeit, not totally unexpected). Of course, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Austria and Canada didn't even qualify.

At least Germany is undefeated, meaning I might actually have one team to root for in the elimination phase. Otherwise, this tournament has pretty well sucked.

By the time that last pass was made, the defenders had gotten back and had kept Valbuena on side. It was real close, but I think it was a good no call.

Why am I not surprised to learn that Mark cheers for Germany?

Doesn't have to be backwards. The second player just has to be behind the ball when it's passed.

That's what I meant, though. He wasn't, was he?

Sports are generally more enjoyable when the team you are rooting for wins. A recent survey revealed that Seahawks fan enjoyed the last Super Bowl more than Broncos fans did.
