Most can hit a 5 iron 180- 190. If you need a 220 yd shot you better be able to blast a 3 iron or
    take something off 5 wood,

If you gave a 5 iron in hand at 220 you are likely to come up short.

Wow, you guys are tough to impress. That ball couldn't have been any better if he had picked it up and walked it into the box. Given the circumstances, I find that to be remarkable.

Guys on the minor tours routinely hit 5-irons 220. My son hits his pitching wedge about 150, and he's not the longest kid on his golf team.

It was a clutch play, no doubt. But given that kind of room, there are a lot more than two or three who could hit it.

Who gives a shit how long someone can hit a five iron? Doesn't make you a good golfer if you can't hit the green.

And I agree with Hokie. Looked easy but it reminded me of Sid's Gold Medal winning goal. There are only about two NHL guys would could have scored

Not saying anything new, but. Cameron and Bradley were both weak, but sometimes you have to acknowledge a great goal as a great goal. And a desperate Portugal made a great play. They managed a point in a game where they were outplayed down the stretch.

The thing to remember is, if the U.S. loses, they lose ground in GD just as Ghana would gain in GD by beating Portugal. Right now the U.S. is +1 and Ghana is -1. So if each happens by a one-goal margin, the U.S. and Ghana are at 0 and the second tiebreaker — total goals — then comes into play. The U.S. has 4; Ghana has 3.

So it behooves the U.S. to a) win or draw against Germany; b) short of that, keep the margin of loss to a single goal; c) hope for Ghana to not blow out Portugal; and d) score at least as many goals as Ghana does on Thursday.

But I have a feeling the U.S. is going to be alright. Wink wink.

1982, to be precise. A 2-1 win over Austria put both through to the second round, so that's what they engineered.

If you figure each club down as 10 extra yds that means he should hit his 5 iron 200 yds

jr jr the golf course czar
he’ll wager a toonie you won’t shoot par

His mission is to enforce the rules
And punish the golfers who act like tools.

While everyone is having a drink at the bar,
He’s out in the parking lot checking your car.

It’s a beautiful day but jr is vexed
The guy in his foursome is sending a text.

Don’t talk about work, don’t eat in the cart
Go into the bushes if you have to fart.

In your honor I’m taking a leak on the green
Fore!, jr, and God save the queen.

So, according to the talkback portions of stories, the US and Germans and going to lie down on the field on Thursday, sing Kumbaya and both advance to the Elimination Round.

If David Stern were in charge that's exactly what would happen.
