Tony, do you really think that kind of talk is confined to soccer? Every time an NFL team plays on Monday night and then has to go on the road Sunday, it's talked up as an issue. I remember when the Jets had to go to Denver to play Tebow on a Thursday (both teams on three days' rest), that schedule was cited as a reason he ran through them in the fourth quarter.

I would say four days would be a little better, and Portugal was the only team that played in the jungle that didn't lose its next match. Not excuses, really, but definitely factors.

Time to open up this can of worms again: the USMNT would be much better off with Donovan not only on the roster, but in the lineup. Even now, he's a level (or two) above Bedoya, Davis and even Zusi. It's terrific that we made it through, and Klinsmann deserves every bit of praise he's getting for that, but our outside mids have been terrible.

I told my wife watching the last 10 minutes of the game and still hoping for a tying goal despite knowing we were pretty assured of moving on, that he would be perfect in that situation if nothing more than for the experience and an added spark.

I love how these screeds always claim that soccer games are interminable. It takes two hours, with only one break. That's less than every "American" sport.

I like that they apparently use a 12 year-old picture of Ann Coulter.

Algeria ties it up on a goal by a guy named Islam. (I'm not making this up. I couldn't make up stuff this good.)
