Down here in Redneckistan, I saw something new today - an electronic billboard located on a major road had a scoreboard and clock on it for Columbia-Uruguay match.

Colombia? Yeah, that would qualify as Redneckistan!

I think that it is clearly in the top 3 with RvP's header.

They have 120 minutes to make sure it doesn't.

No doubt. I'm with you on that, but many of the folks here don't care.

    1a. van Persie
    1b. Cahill
    2. Rodriguez
    3. Messi (take your pick of his)

I still lean toward van Persie first, because of the timing and touch required on such a long ball. Cahill's was its equal, but it's slightly easier to control it off the foot than off the head. Rodriguez's was phenomenal, but not quite in that class. And Messi's free kick was probably his best, but the placement on his other goals was perfect.

The van Persie goal was brilliant. Even he may say it was dead luck, but it was brilliant.

    Messi's grandpa is a hard-ass.

97 degrees in the pitch today. Refs called for a water break during Mex/ Netherlands.

And, here's what Cathal Kelly, sports columnist for the Globe and Mail tweeted about that:

    Moron.

This heat and humidity is not doing the Netherlands any favors.

Definitely old school. I guess it would be comparable to playing
a football game in "The Swamp" in late August / early September ( albeit without pads)
and why they developed Gatorade as we learned from the commercial.

Soccer is such an enlightened sport that it's hard to understand that they are
so far behind on the importance of keeping the players hydrated.
