It's a matter of seeing what we want to see.

A play at the plate with the series on the line would have been exciting, so we want to believe that it was feasible.

Did anyone notice that he looked back to the outfield twice (instead of just picking on 3rd base coach) slowing him down.

He definitely did. I noticed that. I don't think it would have made a difference, considering he was just arriving at third as Crawford handled the throw, but it never ceases to amaze me when major leaguers make fundamental mistakes that you are taught in Little League. They all do it, though. And I know I did, too. I'm not sure I ever did not see a hit fall in.

Probably not, but I think he looked back twice. Of course if Posey didn't get hurt resulting in the rule change, Gordon would've had a better chance at scoring by running him over.

The replay of the Gordon hit is going to become Kansas City's Zapruder Film.
"As he's rounding second, watch as he looks back ... and to the left. Back ... and to the left. Back ... and to the left. Totally inconsistent with what he'd been taught. If he picks up the third base coach and keeps running, what happens next? Pandemonium."

If he doesn't look back, he's out by 42 feet instead of 45.

Not that I disagree with you and others in the main, but doesn't this contradict the "major-leaguers don't blow that relay" narrative?

    No.

Ah ... so major-leaguers make fundamental mistakes ... they just wouldn't make that mistake.

How are people still arguing this point? It's all 20/20 hindsight. Perez looked bad making that final out, so they should have sent Gordon and hoped for an error? Because that really would have been his only shot to score. Unless the Giants made a mistake, he would have been thrown out easily. It would have been a very bad bet.

Anyone needs a lawyer, better go with Quant.

I just watched Game 7 on the MLB Network. Gordon would have been out by a mile.
