There are a lot of people who don't like Schilling.

Smoltz is beloved. Such a great guy.

Next year the big four are Griffey, Hoffman, Edmonds and Wagner.

Sets up for a Griffey / Piazza induction. I don't think Raines or Bagwell will come close to making up the 20 percent gap (although if one does it will be Raines) and I don't think Hoffman will get enough first ballot to stay above the 75 percent, unless all of the Lee Smith voters go with him as well.

McGwire and Trammell will fall off due to year constraints.

Didn't realize Biggio is the first guy elected who spent the bulk of his career with the Astros.

Nolan Ryan played more years (9) with the Astros than anywhere else, but it was less than half his career.

The list of every voter. Apparently Murray Chass followed through on his vote until Morris and then not vote again pledge as well.

Agreed on Trammell, who doesn't have Yount's longevity mostly because he didn't make it to the big leagues as soon as Yount, who debuted at 18; he was actually older at the end of his career than Yount was at the end of his. And I didn't realize until I looked it up just now that he played considerably more games at short than Yount did (Yount spent almost as much time in the OF as he did at SS - he never played short after '84). Trammell is probably one of the most underrated players of all time; you wonder if his HOF chances would have been different had he won the MVP in 1987, which he probably should have and probably would have if voters then used the criteria they use now.

ESPN.com's lead headline says "Four Voted Into Hall Of Fame," but only three players are pictured. Weird!

Four is the most elected by the voters since 1955.
Seems that a 10-slot ballot works just fine.
Might not swing open the gate for every fanboi's fave, but if you're a HOFer, you're getting in.

Funny thing is, I tend to think Lou Whitaker has just as good a Hall of Fame case as Trammell, and he dropped off the ballot after one year.

I guess we're just at the point where nobody cares anymore about the hissy fit voters are throwing regarding Bonds and Clemens. Too boring.

I assumed the voters either voted for both Bonds and Clemens or neither one. Guess not.

Yeah it seems a little odd that you'd vote one but not the other.
