I think it's probably the best hire that DePaul could get.

There are some examples where it actually works. I think of Larry Shyatt at Wyoming -- he was there for one year, didn't even make the NCAA -- and bolted for Clemson. Gets fired at Clemson a few years later, does "assistant time" with Donovan at Florida -- and returns to Wyoming. He isn't a threat to leave Wyoming and they were clearly better than when he arrived.

The parallels can be good when recruiting. He should say "look, when I left for Virginia, it was an amazing opportunity. I thought I could turn it around -- didn't quite work out there but we made it work here and we can do it again. I've gotten the ACC bug out of my system and want to bring DePaul back."

Or he could say... "Look, Mom, if DePaul or Virginia was recruiting your kid, where would YOU want them to go?"

Apparently, UC-Irvine's Russell Turner turned down an offer from George Mason.

    Awesome.

Turner went to my high school, and I wore his number during my own (far shittier) hoops career. Given the state of the uniforms when I played, it may have been the same uniform.

Russell Turner is a damn good coach and he has a pretty good thing going right now at UCI. It won't be long before he'll be getting a lot better offers than George Mason.

Yeah. I was a little surprised that he was even considering it. But apparently, he's staying put so his wife can continue her career as a....doctor or something....at UCLA, I think. Which is why he moved out there to begin with a few years ago without a coaching job.

He'll be at a Pac-12 school within two years.

Looks like I'm gonna be wrong:

"Source confirms Alabama AD Bill Battle's in the air flying to meet with Gregg Marshall. First reported by @CecilHurt and @GaryParrishCBS." ~ Kevin Scarbinsky

Must be a tall stack of money.

    $3.4M, apparently.

    So what's Texas doing?

Preparing for a bidding war with Alabama? Or maybe lining up Smart as the backup plan?

Personally, I'd much rather live in Austin than Tuscaloosa if they money is anywhere near close. Or even if it isn't. No-brainer.

Coaches live in their offices, the gym and on the recruiting trail. They don't see their living rooms, let alone the city the school's in.

I'm aware that coaches work a lot. Thanks, Gee!
