That completely takes what Cena said out of context. He was talking about his character and wanting to keep his stuff where it appeals to kids. He wasn't talking about every story line in the WWE. Heck, with the exception of a part of the Attitude Era, the WWE and WCW have always appealed to kids. Even then, a lot of the stuff they did was aimed at kids, even if it wasn't wholesome.

Mexican wrestling star Perro Aguayo Jr. died after suffering a spinal injury in the ring during a match in Tijuana.
I'm not familiar with his work, but apparently he was one of Mexico's top heels for a long, long time.

Perro Aguayo Jr. passes away in Tijuana hospital after match last night (Updated)

And Deadspin has some video of not the injury itself, but the end of the match. Aguayo is sprawled out on the ropes, looking like he's unconscious. It's a bit difficult to watch knowing what was happening.

That was hard to watch. From what the comments say, it could have been a variety of things, such as taking three bumps in 30 seconds, or he just hit the rope awkwardly on the drop kick.

What pisses me off about it is Konnan shaking him, and the referee not stopping the fucking match. And in continuing the match, they continued to use the ropes and came close to hitting the guy several times. On the 619, it looked like Mysterio knew he was hurt and missed him on purpose, then looked surprised when Aguayo still didn't sell it.

Oh, and why don't they have a real stretcher there, with a backboard and a neck brace, ainstead of carrying the guy off on a door?

Just terrible, on so many levels.

I don't see Rey being surprised Aguayo wasn't selling it. I see Rey trying to get the ref's attention that something is wrong.

There's a YouTube video out there that shows what led up to it. It looks like Aguayo gets dropkicked onto the middle rope and snaps his neck on it. He's walking around, gets kicked, then snaps back violently off the rope and doesn't move again.
I've also seen some speculation that he hit his head on the floor a few seconds before.

Yeah, that;s tough to watch, but it's hard to fault anyone. They are supposed to be selling their bumps, after all. And the other guys are just going on with the match not realizing that something's wrong. Looks pretty obvious from the angle we're seeing it, but from inside the ring, with som uch going on, it likely wasn't clear. And Konnan just seems to be trying to see if he's OK or just knocked out. Sad.

One report has the cause of death as a stroke caused by cervical trauma. Meltzer's has the trauma coming from his neck hitting the rope. The Wrestlezone report also said it took the doc longer to get there because he was treating two other injured wrestlers and they carried him out on plywood in order to get him to an ambulance faster.

Update: El Hijo Del Perro Aguayo Cause of Death Revealed

The plywood thing sounds like a bad excuse. They couldn't have gotten a stretcher, backboard and neck collar down there and on him in the amount of time it took to end the match and to get a piece of plywood?

This happened in Tijuana. Be thankful they didn't haul him away in a rusty wheelbarrow.

    Very true.

Wonder if Mysterio is wishing he were back in the WWE right about now.

    I don't doubt it.

Konnan is also somewhat notorious for being cheap. The one story in Jericho's book about a negative wrestling payoff was about wrestling for Konnan in Mexico before he got hired by WCW.

The comment on the Deadspin story was hard on Konnan, but watching the video, how was Konnan supposed to have a clue it was a neck injury? No one had any idea when the guy got hurt. Konnan probably assumed he was knocked unconscious, not that he broke his neck.
