I just see a raw deal for Julien. But maybe I am not informed enough. The declining Chara is part of the issue. Julien isn't the one who let their defense go to pot before they had young players who were ready to step in. He's also not the one who essentially put together a team with only one solid line. I have actually been impressed with what Boston has done with what they have. Obviously, a big part of that has been Tuuka Rask. But Julien is a really good coach. Firing him, because you have put together a very flawed team and you want him to change his style on a wing and a prayer than you can do something with that team, isn't quite fair.

That said. ... he was at about that time when things almost always need a change in the NHL. The first team out there that was thinking about making a change should snap him up in a hurry.

Might be a guy Vegas looks at.

Arguing with a colleague about if a contending team will ax their coach to hire Julien in the next month or if he'll get hired sometime in the summer......I'm thinking its definitely the summer.

This year's Boston roster stinks. Their positioning is not on Julien. But his teams collapsed in the playoffs in '14 and in March/April of '15 and '16. When you don't fire him immediately after those he sort of gets a clean slate....but at the same time you can't totally ignore those shortcomings when evaluating the decision.

You can add Lindy Ruff to the Vegas pool. After tonight's disaster in Nashville, the Stars will be cleaning house at the end of the season.

Ducks' Antoine Vermette gets a game misconduct and will probably be suspended for a slash of an official. Ten games would seem severe for what actually happened, but if it is so stipulated in the rules, then that's what it should be. He did it, period. Shandor Alphonso, a linesman I don't recall having ever seen before, spent this game just refusing to drop the puck. Players from the Ducks and Wild were repeatedly thrown out of the circle. Even on TV you could hear the fans shouting at him. Vermette is the No. 1 faceoff man in the league and has been all season. On the defensive end, he kept having to reset, every draw. On this one, he pulled back to reset and then the puck was dropped. He wasn't even looking. What I used to say about basketball refs: Good ones control the game; bad ones call technicals.

I remember Shandor Alphonso from his OHL playing days and always thought that was a really cool handle.
