Yeah, it would be hard to surpass 44 million for the 1978 World Series between the Yankees and Dodgers.

If it gets 20 million, Fox should be ecstatic.

It'll have 20 million thru the first 2 games.

I think the 44 million is average viewership per game. Last year's average viewership was 14.7 million per game.

I bet it pulls 24-25 or so.

The last World Series to reach that number was 2004, which has obvious parallels to this year.

However, that was before cord-cutting had diminished numbers so much.

The Series also starts on a Tuesday instead of a Saturday like it did back then.

Yes, it's wise to avoid competing with the NFL as much as you can, but I wonder if fewer weekend dates will cut into the potential audience.

Aren't there more Cubs fans than Red Sox fans?

Plus, the Cubs just being in the World Series is a novelty.

Shit, I'd take my chances against the NFL. I'm not a Cub fan (sorry, 3BF! lol), but look at Saturday's ratings for the NLCS and you get an idea of what might be to come. It outdrew all the college football airing that day...

NLCS Game 6 draws "yuuuuge" numbers for FS1

Game 6 in 2003, also at Wrigley Field, also with the Cubs up 3-2, drew a 12.6, double this year's rating. Of course, that's a Tuesday night vs. a Saturday night.

    Game 7 highest-rated LCS game since 1991

Are there any nationwide or worldwide polls on favorite baseball team? If it's by merchandise or revenue, the Red Sox > the Cubs.
