It's subjective, but bullshit on that everyone knew Williams was going to blow it. It was a walkoff HR to win a WS. You are better off saying because it was the Yanks-Sox is why it was more dramatic, because that is what you are really saying.

Yeah, it was. They should have won that game and Game 6, and won it in six instead of losing in six.
I still remember wondering why Fregosi pulled Roger Mason, a non-descript middle reliever who was pretty much the only effective pitcher on either side in that game. He had gotten things under control after the wild start and then they pulled him in the sixth, I believe. The rest of the bullpen got torched.

The Yanks-Sox angle definitely plays into it, though. It was an epic series with a memorable ending, and a great chapter in their long-running feud. It's also helped by the fact that it was a prologue for the 2004 comeback, and before the Yanks-Sox rivalry angle got beaten into the ground.

JC, we'd all seen him blow the 15-14 game just days before. He didn't inspire confidence. Besides, the Jays were the better team playing at home. Phils were a team of hitters and one pitcher (Schilling) riding a hot batting streak.

Curt Schilling sitting in the dugout with a towel on his head in the NLCS and World Series said all you needed to know about the Phillies' confidence in Williams.

You're right, everybody could see a walkoff HR ending the WS. It is fairly common.

Fantastic finish for sure, but I think it being Game 6 and the Blue Jays having won the World Series the year before diminishes it just a little bit in comparison to some of the others.

He was actually mocking Muslim women.

It was tremendous, but Game 6s usually only gain top-shelf stature when the team facing elimination wins them.

This was me last night after the 8th. Got up slowly from the living room couch, walked quietly into an adjoining room, sat on the floor and buried my head in my hands. "Why can't we win just once?" is exactly what rolled over and over and over in my head.

Returned to the couch before the start of the 9th.

An hour or so later, pure joy and tears. Finally.

    Baseball.
