Tony Watson gives up the deciding run in the top of the ninth as the Pirates fall back under .500 with a loss to the Reds tonight. So, does that one count in the discussion of the team hurting itself by dealing away one of the game's top relievers at the deadline?

A buddy of mine raised a good point on Facebook. Why are we assuming he would leave after the season? Of course, it is because the Pirates don't spend money. If you want to say that is cheap ownership, fine. If you want to say that is life in a small market, that's fine, too. But either way, it isn't a baseball decision.

Asking whether a free agent would leave is meaningless. He is a free agent at the end of the season regardless if he stayed or was traded and the team has the same ability to sign him either way.

Most predictable post of the day. Congratulations.

Giants bring in Cory Gearrin to start the 12th. He gets the first hitter to strike out and is relieved by Javier Lopez. Instead of his night ending, Gearrin stays in to play left field. Lopez walks lamb and Gearrin returns to the mound to get the final two outs. Giants win 7-6 with Gearrin getting a three-out save, facing four hitters non-consecutively.

A little comic relief after Casilla blows another save. Or as Nancy Kerrigan put it, "Why, why, why?"

    Trea Turner. Hall of Famer?

Eight homers, 30 RBIs and 21 steals in 52 games while hitting .345.

Turner has been at worst the second best player for the NL's second best team since the break.
