A rookie beating Kershaw, maybe there is some Gints magic left

Cano and Cruz rally the M's to a 7-7 tie in the bottom of the 7th; Seattle must win to stay alive.

Then in the top of the eighth, Cishek coughs up the lead on a Marcus Semien ground rule double.

Both bullpens pouring plenty of gasoline on this game.

As predicted above, the M's tie it in the eighth. Then their young reliever Diaz manages to retire Oakland in order, so Seattle with a chance to win it in the bottom of the ninth.

If the M's win, we have Baltimore and Toronto with 73 losses, Detroit and Seattle with 74 with one game (and one makeup game? maybe?) left to play.

No mention of Osuna balking in the tying run tonight? Stunned Toronto won that game -- off Kimbrel

Potentially fun storyline today as Giants need either a win or a Cardinals loss -- and starting for Pittsburgh against St. Louis is Ryan Vogelsong, one of the more popular Giants during their last two WS runs.

I mean, he totally sucks now, but a guy can dream.

Giants up 5-0 after two. Posey with three RBIs. Cubs can start getting nervous now. #evenyear

Scully overload today. I can hear spnited screaming from above.

Of course, in a day or two I'll be screaming at him about the Mets-Giants playoff, if the current state of affairs continues ...

As a Cubs fan I'm nervous because it is baseball over five games which is basically a coin flip. But if I had to choose based on some tiny difference in the odds of victory, I'd rather the Giants beat the Mets.

    I know you would.

Because you do not believe in the San Francisco Positive Variators.

Remember when they almost blew it in the ninth against KC after bobbling a ball in the outfield after you had just pointed to bobbled balls in the outfield as something they don't do?

If anything, my preference is probably emotional. I don't want the Mets to have a chance to repeat last year, and I certainly don't want the Cardinals to have a chance to reverse last year. If the Giants knock out the Cubs? Call it even for 1998 and good luck against the Nats.

Why would a major league team bother to put a player on the 15-day disabled list now? The Pirates put Starling Marte on the DL Saturday. He had only three at-bats since Sept. 5 due to back problems. The team called it a "paperwork move."

Pirates place Starling Marte on 15-day DL

Neil Huntington claimed it hjad nothing to do with Marte's contract status, but it was "useful in a variety of ways." He refused to explain what those ways might be when asked.

Seriously, does anybody know the point of this?
